Ken Sunshine
Ken Sunshine’s career began as a community organizer, helping troubled teens. He soonstarted working in the political arena as an advocate for progressive change, and in 1972 he was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He has advised on communications strategies, messaging, and celebrity involvement in local and nationalcampaigns ever since. Later, he served as Chief of Staff to New York City Mayor David Dinkins.
Before starting his own communications firm, Sunshine worked in the entertainment business where he headed the public relations department of ASCAP. Ken Sunshine founded Ken Sunshine Consultants in 1991, later to become Sunshine Sachs and then Sunshine Sachs Morgan & Lylis (SSM&L) in 2022. Over the past three decades thefirm has represented clients ranging from leading corporations, nonprofits and unions, to some of the most prominent names in entertainment. SSM&L has 250 employees, with offices in NewYork, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. Atlanta, San Francisco, Austin and London. The firm specializes in media relations, corporate image programs, crisis communications, reputation and issues management, event promotion, and communications skills training.
Sunshine currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York, the External Affairs and Legislative Committees and Cultural Property Task Force at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boards of the Community Service Society, and the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. He is Co-chair of The Mayor’s Theatre/Live Performance Industry Council and is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
